How to use

The one time model download
Remove Background uses an AI model called BiRefNet to find the subject in your photo. Standard tier downloads about 95MB and works on any device. High tier downloads about 110MB and needs a browser with WebGPU support. Both models download once and then stay cached in your browser, so later runs start instantly.
That download is real and worth stating upfront. A 95MB or 110MB download on a slow connection takes a moment, but it happens only the first time you use the tool.
What you get back
The result is always a transparent PNG. Photos up to 4096px on the longest side keep that exact resolution. A photo larger than 4096px is downscaled to fit that cap before the cutout runs, so very large source photos will not come back at their original size. If the AI path fails on a device, a classic edge based fallback takes over instead, capped at 1400px. Processing stays on your device throughout, no copy of your photo is sent to a server.
Where it works best, and where it struggles
Results are strongest on three kinds of photos: products shot on a plain or lightly textured background, portraits where the subject clearly stands out from the background, and logos or graphics built from flat colors and sharp edges. A busy background, fine loose hair, or low contrast between subject and background gives the model less to work with, and the cutout edge will show it.
Choose High tier when your browser supports WebGPU and you want the sharper of the two models. Standard tier is the safe default everywhere else.

Which photos work best?
Products on plain backgrounds, portraits with clear contrast against the background, and flat colored logos give the cleanest cutouts.
What if my browser does not support WebGPU?
High tier needs WebGPU and will not run without it. Standard tier works on any device instead.
